Virtual 5K to Benefit Austin-Based Nonprofits

Hit the streets of your own city this year and join us for our first virtual 5K as part of the national conference. By participating, you will help raise money for Foundation Communities and Girlstart! All you have to do is recruit pledges and finish 5 kilometers, or 3.1 miles, between April 10-16. You can run, walk, stroll, rollerblade, or even kayak!

How to Participate

  • Sign up on our virtual 5k registration site
  • Download the pledge sheet
Share with your colleagues, family and friends to start fundraising. They can pledge per kilometer or a single amount to the non-profit of their choosing.
  • Join the BPA network on Strava, an exercise app. Say hi to other participants, post pictures, and track your run/walk. Search ‘National HP Conference Virtual 5k’ in ‘Clubs.’
  • Get motivated with some tunes by listening to our Texas-themed running mix on Spotify!
  • Get moving! This is the fun part! Between April 10 and 16, complete your run, walk, stroll, rollerblade, or kayak 5K (3.1 miles). Choose your own route in your hometown or stay home on your treadmill. Track your run via Strava or your preferred running app. This is not a race, so go as fast or slow as you’d like! Please remember to be safe, follow social distancing, and wear proper face coverings as needed.
  • Share your results and donations. After you’ve completed your 5k, let your sponsors know of your success! Collect funds and submit them to GirlStart and/or Foundation Communities. When donating to Foundation Communities, please add “5K for Emergency Fund” in the comment section.

Please note, both organizations are gladly accepting donations from all conference attendees, whether you complete the 5K or not. You can make a direct donation using the links above.

Live Screening: Creating the First-ever TV Series on Home Performance

Wednesday, April 14
7:00 - 8:00 p.m.

'Home Diagnosis' seasons 1 and 2 are now airing on over 60% of PBS stations nationwide- how will that affect your business or program? Talk with the show's creators, writers, and hosts, Grace and Corbett Lunsford, about the long journey to bring this crash course in home performance to American TV, and offer feedback and ideas for future seasons. The couple worked in WAP, HERS Rating, BPI training, and HVAC design, and aimed to take the sales proposition for performance-tuned homes straight to the bosses of the entire residential construction industry: the homeowner.

Common Thread Radio Hour

Season 1: Common Threads of Texas

BPA’s Nate Natale is a music enthusiast who has had a radio program concept on his to-do list for years. This year he found the motivation to bring it to life through a combination of more time at home due to COVID and a genuine sadness about not being in Austin for our industry’s annual gathering. He decided that now is the time to put himself (and his enthusiasm) out there and for the Common Thread Radio hour to hit the interwebs. The focus of the first season was obvious – it would be a celebration of the eclectic sounds of Texas as part of the National Conference’s Austin-inspired events and entertainment.

Common Thread Radio Hour is about finding connections between songs, their creators, and the world around us without sticking to traditional boundaries – and this inaugural five-episode season features many of the Common Threads of Texas. Each day of the conference a new episode will be posted for streaming through Spotify. We wanted to give you a Texas-themed soundtrack – along with factoids and a few laughs – for your commute, breaks, lunch, anytime…other than during our sessions! Enjoy.
